SOMETHING FROM NOTHING – Foo Fighters

If you haven’t watched it yet, you must check the documentary, divided in 8 parts, that Foo Fighters created while they were looking for inspiration for the songs of the new album “Sonic Highways”.

First stop is the city of Chicago, extremely important in the history of Blues (Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy), but also in the one of punk music (Cheap Trick) and particularly for Dave Grohl.

In fact, Dave was exposed to the city and its music since he was 8…. at the beginning because part of his family lived there and later on, while collaborating  with the great music producer Steve Albini for the release of the album “In Utero” with Nirvana.

The song was inspired by all these life experiences and by things said/lived while preparing  the documentary……

Give me the flammable life, I’m cold as a match,Ready to strike So here I go…

Here lies a city (chicago) on fire
    Singing along
    The arsonist choir (punk music)
    Now here I go…

    It started with a spark
And burned into the dark (nirvana?)
    Now here I go…

There is a river I found
    Into the wild
    Under the ground
    So here I go…

A button on a string (the punk songs started all like that)
    And I heard everything
    Now here I go…

Oh sweet ignition be my fuse
You have no choice you have to choose
Bid farewell to yesterday (nirvana again vs foo fighters)
Say goodbye I’m on my way

But in the end we all
    Come from what’s come before
    So here I go…

Oh sweet ignition be my fuse
You have no choice you have to choose
    Bid farewell to yesterday
Say goodbye I’m on my way
I threw it all away because
I had to be what never was
Been so hungry I could lie
You took my word I took your wine
And held you in my bloody hands
These rattled bones and rubber bands
Washed them in the muddy water (part of the documentary, back to the roots of blues)
Looking for a dime and found a quarter (life expectations of buddy guy while he reached Chicago for the first time)
But you can’t make me change my name
You’ll never make me change my name
Pay no mind now ain’t that something
Fuck it all! I came from nothing

    I’m something
    From nothing
    You are my fuse
    I’m something
    From nothing
    You are my fuse
    It goes…

    Oh oh oh…
    Oh oh oh…
    Oh oh oh…
    It goes…
    Oh oh oh…

    All Rise!

No you can’t make me change my name
You’ll never make me change my name
Pay no mind now ain’t that something
Fuck it all! I came from nothing
    I’m something
    From nothing
    I’m something
    From nothing
