  • Welcome – interview with UN ALTRA STORIA

    Un'Altra Storia

RYL: Tell us about your last EP “Welcome”, what it means for you ?

UN’ALTRA STORIA: Actually it was something we were not expecting to do.

We started this band less than a year before releasing our first EP and at the time we didn’t know where this new adventure would have taken us.

So it was something incredible that happened in our lives, we had fun writing and recording songs about our personal love and life stories that everyone can relate to.

RYL: Let’s talk about the song “You are so special”, what inspired its verses?

UN’ALTRA STORIA: The whole song is about young love. All the emotions and feelings that it gives you and all the problems that come with them.

There is a contrast between the instrumental of the song, which is very aggressive and punk rock, and the lyrics, which are sweet and innocent.

RYL: Is there a common meaning/theme between all your songs?

UN’ALTRA STORIA: Everything is linked by love and first experiences.

The title its self, “Welcome”, says that. It’s like: ”Welcome to life, love, music and everything that will happen in your first years of life.” Sometimes it’s a positive connection like in “You’re So Special” and “Primo Appuntamento”, sometimes it’s a negative one or something between the two.

RYL:  Do you remember the day you wrote “Chasing Shadows”?

UN’ALTRA STORIA: We were at Giorgio’s house and it was at the beginning of summer 2014.

We were sitting in his living room thinking and talking about our ideas about a new song and “Chasing Shadows” was the result. We don’t know why but every one of us agreed to talk about suicide in this song.

RYL: how do you, usually, write the lyrics and music of your songs?

UN’ALTRA STORIA: We usually write when we feel a strong feeling, either a good or bad one. It’s like painting that feeling.

Every note is a bit of emotion. That feeling goes from me to the painting, the song.

Once the song is finished it’s like I don’t feel anything anymore and the song has taken that emotion. But every time we play that specific song we feel that emotion again.

RYL: Which is your favorite song (lyrically speaking)?

UN’ALTRA STORIA: We will all go with “Chasing Shadows”.

RYL: Which is the most important thing for you while doing music?

UN’ALTRA STORIA: Doing music frees our minds from thoughts and worries. The most important thing is having fun and enjoying ourselves as we play.

RYL:  Which is the best show you did so far? You will tour soon?

UN’ALTRA STORIA: Definitely our show at Stazione Birra in Rome was the best we have ever done. It was our first big stage and we’ll keep that memory forever.

We will be back on stage from September.

RYL: Which is the last song you wrote (not published yet)?

UN’ALTRA STORIA: We are actually working on a new EP. We have already 3 songs ready to be recorded while we are writing new stuff for the future. Giorgio is working on a song called “Living in a Bubble”.

Filippo is about to finish a song called “Darkness” and Fabio is chasing an idea but the song still needs a title and some lyrics.

RYL: your favorite rock song (because of its verses)?

UN’ALTRA STORIA: “Message in a Bottle” for Giovanni, “Let it Be” for Giorgio, “Civil War” for Fabio while Filippo and Andrea don’t have a specific favorite one.

RYL: What “Halloween” verses mean to you?

UN’ALTRA STORIA: It is a special song for me (Filippo). It talks about both life and love. Its verses have a different meaning from the chorus.

The fear of ending up all alone while growing up. We wish we could stay young and innocent forever, with that special person you love and that you have by your side. But time passes, people change, and you change too.

You are scared of being inadequate, strange and inappropriate but it is just the way you are, you can’t change it.

All you want is to go back to the good old times when you were more carefree and everything was simpler, but you just can’t.
