How do you usually write the lyrics of your songs?
We usually start with a lyrical concept after the riff. We try to write the chorus first to get a sense of where the song is headed, but sometimes it doesn’t work out that way. There’s no real road map for song writing, but luckily all the guys in this band write with very similar styles.
In your opinion, what is the most important thing in songwriting?
It’s definitely that you feel something and feel it strongly. It could be a good feeling or bad, as long as it invokes a very specific reaction. The other important thing is that you don’t just settle for the first draft of a concept. We feel that we owe it to the listener to really dive in and refine the concepts and lyrics behind the composition.
Are you ever scared of revealing aspects of your personal life/experience to strangers through your music?
Scared is probably not the right word. I think letting yourself be vulnerable in your lyrics is a sign of a mature writing style. People connect more to a song if you allow it to come from a real place.
What is the best lyric that you ever wrote (the most meaningful for you)?
I think the lyrics in “10 Feet Tall” are some of our favorites. We’ve had a strong connection to the lyrical concept in this song for a long while now!
What inspired “10 Feet Tall”, your latest single?
Writing a song about empowerment was pretty easy inspiration for us to draw on. Our lives are full of amazing, supportive, and empowering people. This song was meant to be an anthem for the ones that empower others. Everyone has had to overcome obstacles or face adversity, this song came from that, the challenges we’ve had to face in our lives.
Among all the verses of your songs is there one that has a very special meaning for you?
We have a song coming out on the EP that has one of our favorite verses about where you could’ve been in your life had you not messed up things along the way. The idea of regret is something that resonates with everyone, and this song dives into that broad concept and presents it in a very unique light.
What was the best moment of your career? And the most difficult one?
Hopefully the best moment of our career is still yet to come! But so far the day we signed our deal with RED Music was pretty special. As far as the most difficult, touring can be very taxing on the body. Even though we love every minute of it some of these shows can be very physically difficult.
What are your plans for the next months to come?
Touring, writing, touring and more writing! We continue moving forward and are excited to release some new and different content over the next few months!
