RYL: Which is the best cover you have played?
Brittany Ray: I think my best cover so far is of Thrift Shop by Macklemore. It’s my favorite because I took a rap song and made it into a ballad; stripping it down to just piano and voice. It was so different from the original song and it is so fun to sing!

RYL: What inspired your last song (not yet published)?
Brittany Ray: My last song is called “Stuck In My Head” and is about someone who you are so crazy about, that they are the only thing on your mind. This song was written in June and inspired by the summertime.
The first couple lines are relating a boy to the amazing things about summer: “You’re like a sweet sunrise in the summertime, sittin’ on the front porch, sippin’ on fresh squeezed lemonade.” I like it because the whole song is full of these similes.
RYL: Tell us everything about the song “Love is Worth it”….which of its verses you like the most?
Brittany Ray: The thing I love most about “Love Is Worth It” is the imagery of it. The verses all paint a really cool picture in the listener’s head about these two people who are so hesitant to take a chance on each other.
The verse I like the most would probably be the first one; you get this image of a girl daydreaming about a guy, who is at the same time staring out his window at her wishing they would get together. I just think that visual is so cool.
RYL: how do you, usually, write the lyrics of your songs?
Brittany Ray: I like to come up with a melody and then write lyrics around it. The lyrics will usually come to me one I have a solid melody!
RYL: how does your songwriting changing? what inspires you?
Brittany Ray: I like to experiment with songwriting and not only write songs that are country/pop feeling, but try to write in different genres.
What really inspires me is exciting melodies, and trying to write and super catchy hook that listeners can’t ignore.
RYL: Which is your favorite song?
Brittany Ray: My favorite song of my own is “Love Is Worth It.” I love the story of it, and I feel like the music and melody is very powerful. Also, it’s a fun song to sing and perform!
RYL: Do you remember the day you wrote “I’ll never lose you” what inspired its lyrics?
Brittany Ray: The lyrics of “I’ll Never Lose You” were inspired by one of my friends from high school. I had just heard that he was moving to a different state, and was sad because I knew I would hardly see him again. In that moment, the lyrics related to him and how even though he would be far away from me, I would never lose him.
RYL: Who is your favorite artist from a songwriting perspective?
Brittany Ray: My favorite artist from a songwriting perspective would have to be Ed Sheeran. His lyrics are amazing, he always has a really fresh and interesting way to say even the simplest of things. His songs are simple, beautiful, and unique and I really admire his music.
RYL: Let’s talk about touring; until today, which was the best show you have done?
Brittany Ray: The best place I have performed would probably be the Grand Opera House in my hometown. It’s a beautiful venue and I felt so classy singing there. The director there supported me and would always invite me to come and perform, it was always a great experience!
RYL: What inspired the verses of “You are my friend”?
Brittany Ray: This song was written when I was close to graduating high school. I knew I was going to leave for college soon and would be leaving a lot of my friends.
The verses refer to how things aren’t going to be the same anymore, and though I want to stay home, I also want to see what’s waiting for me out there.
