Southern California Rockers BADFLOWER have released their highly anticipated new single “30” everywhere via Big Machine/John Varvatos Records. The bold track comes the same day frontman Josh Katz celebrates his milestone birthday alongside bandmates connecting with fans, media and radio. Badflower took also time to chat with fans as they watched the video live on YouTube.
“I’ve always been uncomfortable with the idea of getting older,” explains Katz. “30 is a milestone I’ve been dreading since 20. I wanted to write a song about how I’m feeling internally and everything happening around me in 2020 as a 30 year old. The world is fucking weird and I hate it here.”
Written and produced by Katz, Joey Morrow’s deliberate guitar riff is a bold start to the track as bassist Alex Espiritu and drummer Anthony Sonetti build around Katz’s vocals charging between angst and ease:
I’m nervous, so nervous I overeat, I lack purpose And I’m only scratching the surface And I’m not shelved cause sex sells But how long till I’m canceled This is 30, fucking 30 I’m still here, I’m still dirty
The weekend festivities continued, as Badflower presented and performed at S.H.I.T. (So Happy I’m Thirty) Fest via Livestream at //LiveFrom.events/Badflower. The concept was born out of the realization three members had July birthdays and all they wanted to do was play live music with their friends while supporting others. The event also featured Dead Sara, Bones UK and Dead Poet Society. Proceeds from sales will be split between two important causes – the fight to end immigration detention through Freedom For Immigrants (https://www.freedomforimmigrants.org/) and to change the culture surrounding mental health through 320 Changes Direction (https://www.changedirection.org/320-changes-direction/). The standard stream is $9 or supporters can choose an upgraded package for $30, which includes a special exclusive commemorative t-shirt.
ABOUT BADFLOWER: Primal and passionate, Badflower frontman Josh Katz transforms as he steps up to the microphone. The unmitigated kind of catharsis fueled by emotion and unfiltered intensity offers an awakening to the mind and body as audiences wholly experience the band’s palpable energy. This approach stands out as Badflower’s calling card as Katz [lead singer, guitarist], Joey Morrow [lead guitar, backing vocals], Alex Espiritu [bass] and Anthony Sonetti [drums] sync to captivate audiences. It is also a big reason why the group quietly became one of L.A.’s most buzzed-about Rock bands. Since their emergence in 2014, Badflower has shared stages with the likes of Cage the Elephant, Soundgarden and Ghost; and notched three No. 1s with “The Jester,” “Heroin” and “Ghost” off their critically acclaimed debut album OK, I’M SICK(Big Machine/John Varvatos Records). Wielding their signature energy, the music taps into a gritty and grunge-y gutter rock spirit complemented by jarring theatrical delivery and unshakable riffing. The band’s next single “30” comes from their highly anticipated sophomore album and fittingly lands on Katz’s milestone birthday. In addition to their own headlining dates, Badflower most recently toured with Nothing More and multi-platinum rock band Shinedown.
