RYL: Tell us about your last EP “Breaking Sound”, what it means for you ?
BIG MOUNTAIN COUNTY: “Breaking sound” is our first LP. The idea is to be a sort of “Breaking News”, something that suddenly comes and attracts people’s attention.
RYL: Is there a common meaning/theme between all your songs?
BIG MOUNTAIN COUNTY: Our songs are different to each other, but they all follow a common feeling: the rage against the status quo and the reality of daily life.
Sometimes this rage is shouted, sometimes it is whispered, sometimes it becomes a lysergic escape.
RYL: Do you remember the day you wrote “About a clown”?
BIG MOUNTAIN COUNTY: It was about one year ago.
We started from the main guitar theme and then we tried different versions, also during some live shows. After a lot of work, we finally found its ultimate form.
RYL: how do you, usually, write the lyrics and music of your songs?
BIG MOUNTAIN COUNTY: We usually start from a musical idea: a guitar motif, a rhythm, or a bass line, which is developed by a long and free jam session.
Finally, we work on the arrangement and the lyrics. Sometimes the process is slow and elaborate; sometimes it is fast and immediate.
RYL: Which is your favorite song (lyrically speaking)?
BIG MOUNTAIN COUNTY: We each have our own favorite song. As a band, we love all our songs.
RYL: Which is the most important thing for you while doing music?
BIG MOUNTAIN COUNTY: To express ourselves. To write songs that can reach people and become a part of them.
RYL: Which is the best show you did so far? You will tour Italy and Europe soon?
BIG MOUNTAIN COUNTY: During our last European tour, which ended just a few days ago, we had a great show in Paris.
Another amazing gig was in the old town in Sarajevo, during our first tour.
We were in a small club at the center of the old town, which could have exploded with all the people who were inside listening to us.
RYL: Which is the last song you wrote (not published yet)?
BIG MOUNTAIN COUNTY: We are currently working on new ideas and new sounds, but we do not have any completed new songs right now.
RYL: your favorite rock song (because of its verses)?
BIG MOUNTAIN COUNTY: We all have a favorite song. However, if we have to find our favorite songwriter, we surely choose Lou Reed.
RYL: What “Farewell” verses mean to you?
BIG MOUNTAIN COUNTY: That’s the story of a man whose life was strong and too intense. Memories and dreams are mixed up, and now he feels like a painter who has no inspiration.
It is a farewell to a past life, one that will never come back.
RYL: How does Italy inspires you?
BIG MOUNTAIN COUNTY: By its landscapes, its history and the beauty of its nature. But also by the good food, the literature and the old cinema.
