On the new band, Cody said, “A grand visitation of creative inspiration arose when I spent my summer in Venice Beach. Practicing guitar, surfing and writing poetry and songs in the streets of vibrant Southern California, I was met with an intense surge of musical and literary energy. I conceived of a concept, a project, a band. The Tide. The Tide, acting as a sonic exemplar of flow and fluidity. The way of things. The way of nature. Guitars, rock and surf music, psychedelia, transcendence from everyday bourgeois consciousness. A project that could encourage fellow youth to strive for the state of flow I experienced that summer. A fluidity that the ocean’s tide exemplifies so flawlessly. The way of the tide. The sun and the moon. Zen spontaneity. Myself and some musicians I started playing with that summer have put together a project and band that I’m stoked to share.” Australian-born Cody Simpson has had an impressive career to date. His 2013 album Surfer’s Paradise featured collaborations with Ziggy Marley and Asher Roth and landed in the Top 10 of the Billboard Top 200. He toured Europe and the U.S. as direct support for Justin Bieber and released his official autobiography, Welcome To Paradise: My Journey, through Harper Collins. Along the way, he performed on television programs including The Today Show, Live! with Kelly, Late Late Show with James Corden, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. For the 2015 World Games, Cody partnered with The Coca-Cola Company, Founding Partner of Special Olympics, to record a unified song titled “Reach Up,” and carried the torch for Australia in the 2016 World Olympics in Rio. His latest album, Free (2015), exhibited a musical shift for Cody, and the singer-songwriter received critical acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, Billboard, Nylon, and MTV which said, “Cody’s getting ‘raw’ and ‘real’ on his latest effort.” See below for Cody Simpson & the Tide California coast tour dates.
