How do you usually write the lyrics of your songs?
I start with a concept of a story I want my songs to tell.
Then I sit down at the piano play around with cords. For me certain cords or keys, trigger phrases, or key words.
Do you remember writing “could’ve picked me”?
Yes, I thought about it for a few weeks before I put anything down on paper.
I was finishing 8th grade and there we all these opportunities to do final performances, submit papers to read at graduation, 8th grade play, high schools, etc.
It really shined a light on how so many things is life are about if someone else picks you from friends to being called on by a teacher.
How can we fight against bullying?
I am not sure I have an answer because I don’t understand why people do it in the first place.
I don’t know why people would spend energy to make someone else feel bad about themselves.
I think the best thing we can do is be our best selves and if you see someone bullying someone else – get help from others, parents, teachers.
What is the best verse you ever wrote?
I have a new song that will come out in the Spring and my favorite line is in that song.
Of the songs I have currently published, I like the beginning verse from Bittersweet “I never liked saying goodbye, one more chance to say it all.
Feels kinda like the very first time catch I’m gonna fall” And I love Could’ve Picked Me in general
And the one of your favorite song (not written by you)?
Supermarket Flowers by Ed Sheeran. I love the authenticity of emotion. makes me cry every time
What is the last song you wrote?
Bittersweet I wrote when I was 13 and Could’ve Picked me at 14 years old. I have three new songs; one that I have recorded but not released and two I am still finishing.
What does music mean to you?
Music is an extension of who I am.
I don’t think of it as something I do, I think of it as something I am… it is fun, I do it for myself and my friends – I write so that we can all see a bit our ourselves in my music.
What makes you happy in life?
Being around my friends, my dogs and getting to have these amazing experiences like someone sending me a DM saying that I am telling their story through my songs.
What is the best thing of performing for your audience?
My audience is my peers even if I don’t know them personally – I am singing and performing like a 15-year-old and not trying to be anything else.
We relate to each other.
When you will release a new EP?
I am a full-time freshman in high school, I think it will be early Fall before the EP is available.
I would like to do it faster but don’t want to give up my school experience to rush and get an EP done.
Trying to just enjoy being a normal kid.
