Detroit based RnB singer Tonia shares ‘Lift You Up’ EP

NYC-based RnB songwriter Tonia shares her debut EP, Lift You Up, out now via Red Sea Recordings.

Lift You Up EP is a compilation of songs written on guitar by Tonia between 2015 and 2017. The EP features contributions from local Detroit producers and musicians; Ryan Anderson at RJA Music (production, mixing and mastering), Jupyter (production, “Lift You Up” single) and Jharid Collins (vocal arrangement, “Lift You Up” single).

On the recordings, Tonia experiments with world beat and drum infusions, lacing each song with heartfelt lyrics and sincere vocals. Tonia explores love, toxic relationships, devotion and persevering loyalty, through an uplifting and stirring vocal performance on each recording that listeners can both enjoy and feel.

A native of Detroit, Tonia began her career collaborating with local Detroit musicians and producers before creating her first extended play: Lift You Up.

Tonia’s strong voice developed early on and can be attributed to listening to local singing greats of the 80s and 90s. Her songwriting, a craft most sacred to her, is inspired by writers like Tracy Chapman, Alanis Morissette, Lauryn Hill and others. Through these influences, Tonia composes uplifting and powerful annotations of her life experience through song. Antonia takes inspiration from her daily life and often takes notes on interesting observations she’s made, which she reviews and uses for creative material with her guitar and diary.

Newly based in New York City, she is a frequent contributor at singer-songwriter events and showcases having performed at venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, Gold Sounds, NuBlu, Uptown Soul Lounge at the Gin Fizz, and XIIDC Sessions, DC. Tonia is also a collaborator with Blank Label Records Soul Sessions.
