PERFORMING IN THE UK AT THRESHOLD FESTIVA ON APRIL 14
Watch ‘Explode’ now
Emergency Tiara is the New York based artist you need to get to know. Fronted by Juri, the lead singer, queen, curator and ringleader extraordinaire to the Emergency Tiara kingdom.
The world of Emergency Tiara is revealed in the new video for her latest single ‘Explode’. In Juri’s kingdom, everyone can feel like royalty in an instant – through her unique and intriguing pop sounds, ranging from sultry soul to rampaging swing anthems – taking in everything from French noir to J-Pop.
On Explode, Juri says: “Explode is a song about a someone in your life who you care about and love so much, but also have to be always careful not to upset – an experience everyone can relate to. At the time of writing I was going through a tough time with two important people in my life – and the song is a way of asking them to open up, listen and accept (without having to agree)”
“The video is directed by my partner Russell Lee Cramer; our third video together! The amazing choreography was quite intense to learn, and when we wrapped the video I literally cried with relief”
Juri was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. Classically trained in voice and piano, Juri is driven by the power of music to uplift audiences, having developed her love of singing through early performances with the likes of leading performers including: Japanese classical vocalist, Ken Nishikiori, on La Damnation de Faust, conducted by Seiji Ozawa (now musical director of Vienna State Opera).
Juri has worked with artists and industry icons such as Tata Vega, Raheem DeVaughn, Bootsy Collins, Dontae Winslow and Valerie Simpson.
Emergency Tiara is a mainstay on the live circuit in her hometown New York, and her show will reach UK shores in April, with a set at Liverpool’s Threshold Festival on April 14. Further tour dates will be announced soon.
