“Enjoy the Silence” is one of the most famous song of Depeche Mode.
Written by Martin Gore, it was released in 1990 as second single of the album Violator.
There are (as always 🙂 ) different ideas regarding the meaning of its lyrics: the first one is about how words can be powerful among people.
We all should start “enjoying the silence” because once the silence is broken, many things can happen and the risk, is to be definitively hurt
The other version is related to a popular opinion that the song meaning is about heroin; this is due to the fact that the band’s lead singer, Dave Gahan, had a long heroin addiction problem which almost cost him life and career.
But, again, the song was not written by him, so we do believe the first version remains the most credible.
