rockyourlyricsRYL: Your new single is titled “Haunted House”…. why this title? What inspired its lyrics?
Teenage Bottlerocket: The song is all about horror movies, from a fly reference from Amityville Horror to a mention of Vincent Price, one of the genre’s greats. The title was just because that’s what the song is about.
RYL: What is the most important thing you need to have near to you when you write a song?
Teenage Bottlerocket: A pen and paper so the idea doesn’t just disappear.
RYL: Is there a common meaning/theme between all the songs of the new album “Tales from Vyoming” (to be released march 31st)?
Teenage Bottlerocket: Not necessarily, the record is about things we knew growing up in Wyoming so that’s kind of a common theme, but the songs range from being about pizza to horror movies to girls to Metallica.
RYL: Do you remember how the lyrics of “Dead Saturday” have been written?
Teenage Bottlerocket: Ray actually wrote part of that song many years ago, then all of a sudden the idea came back to him and we finally hashed it out into a full song
RYL: how do you, usually, write the lyrics and music of your songs?
Teenage Bottlerocket: We often times will think of a title first and then go from there. Once we know what the song is about the lyrics start to fill in.
RYL: Tell us everything about “I wanna die”….
Teenage Bottlerocket: You ever had just a really shitty day? That’s what the song is about, just being pissed off, lost and frustrated
RYL: Which is the most important thing for you while doing music?
Teenage Bottlerocket: Writing songs that we like and staying true to ourselves.
RYL: Which is the best verse you ever wrote?
Teenage Bottlerocket: Probably something from Mutilate Me. It has a lot of not so subtle bondage and S&M references but it still sounds like a pop punk song
RYL: Which is the last song you wrote (not published yet)?
Teenage Bottlerocket: We don’t have anything yet that hasn’t been recorded
RYL: You are planning a tour…tell us more about it! Which surprises you planned for your fans?
Teenage Bottlerocket: Lots of new songs, lots of new merch, lots of partying! Let’s hang out!
