How do you usually write the lyrics of your songs?
I usually grab a pen and then I write some letters on a paper to complete a word and then sentences, I’m just joking! Lol. Talking seriously, when I start to feel a strong emotion about something the lyrics just start to flow and when it comes, I try to not loose time using “technical” words, on the contrary I try to express what I feel in the most natural and simple way. Once I have a “rough” complete idea, I make some retouches to it, before start thinking in the music for it. Sometimes the ideas come in English, sometimes in Spanish but I never translate from Spanish or English, I think each language have its own way to express things and I feel like “forcing” if I translate.
In your opinion, what is the most important thing in songwriting?
Honesty. Express what you feel and not trying to write something to impress or make up things to have a “good story” because if you are not feeling it from yourself it won’t connect with the other people.
Are you ever scared of revealing aspects of your personal life/experience to strangers through your music?
No at all, artists are like “channels” and for me, not only are there to entertain people. I think revealing aspects from events you passed through (dramas, good experiences, or whatever) are the best way to touch and connect with people. I mean, a strong message or an example of life could be helpful to others. I am very happy when someone out there connects with my emotions and take it to have a different perspective on its own life.
What is the best lyric that you ever wrote (the most meaningful for you)?
Well, this one is hard! All the lyrics I’ve wrote have a deep meaning behind and are important in the same level. But to choose one, I’ll take “BEFORE I SAY GOODBYE”.
What inspired your latest song “Inside the Mirror”? Any funny behind the scene you want to share with us on the preparation of the video?
This one is about an introspective journey to the deepest place of the human mind. It’s like looking yourself into a magic Mirror and traveling beyond your eyes to face the demons that lives inside your mind.
Funny? Mmm not. Zuberoa Aznárez filmed it by herself and then we worked with a very talented guy called Ingo Spörl who did some epic cutting madness, glitchy transitions, color grading, and fired it up a bit with some smooth effects. On his own words 😉
And “My Last Words”?
“My Last Words” is a special one, the lyrics are based on a true event that happened to me and a very close friend who now is part of my past. Unfortunately, this song is about a “definitive goodbye”. The day I wrote this song we parted ways forever and this song was like a catharsis.
With My Last Words I released everything I felt and healed myself. Sometimes it’s better to let things as they are and not force anything, just understand what is happening and let it go.
Do you remember the day you wrote “Before I Say Goodbye”?
Well, I can remember the feeling that inspired me that night. But to be honest, I don’t remember exactly the day or date. This question it’s interesting, I think I should start saving in my mind the moment when I write something new!
Among all your songs is there a particular verse/lyric that has a special meaning for you?
Maybe this one from “THE TREE OF LIFE”
“The one who gives, always receives
the one who knocks, open all doors
If you believe, you’ll always see.
Who looks inside awakes
Who listen learns everything
And unveils the secrets
that lives inside the truth…”
What are your plans for the upcoming months?
To be honest, I don’t know yet! Haha! For now, just will keep writing new songs, I love to do it!
