How do you usually write the lyrics of your songs? Is it something you like to do?
I’m almost always co-writing lyrics with other writers.
I do like to do it, but that wasn’t always the case.
Now as I’ve grown I see how very important lyrics are to the song.
What was the soundtrack to your childhood?
The Space Jam soundtrack! But honestly I had different phases from electronic, emo, hip hop, punk and all of the above. I’m thankful to have had exposure to an eclectic range of music in my childhood.
What was the first record you ever bought?
I think it was a Fatboy Slim/Paul Oakenfold double disc mix compilation when I was in 3rd or 4th grade.
You are a producer/songwriter and a DJ, is there a link, on top of passion for music, that links all these professions?
Of course!! When I DJ, I’m playing the songs that I’ve produced and written!
And I wouldn’t have ever been able to play as many shows as a DJ if it wasn’t for my own original material.
What has your journey in the music industry been like up to now?
Filled with peaks, valleys, amazing people and not so amazing people, but overall, I feel lucky to be a part of the music industry and I’m very excited for my future within it.
What inspired “All My Life”?
“All My Life” was inspired by the feeling of knowing that there is an attainable freedom and ability to feel something outside of the way you do when you’re down.
Do you remember the day you wrote “Self Control”?
I do, I was with my co-writers Sarah Hudson and Coffee at an AirBnB I had rented in Hollywood. It was 10 mins from my actual house but I wanted a change of scenery and it provided that for us. We wrote 3 songs that day and one of them became the Self Control that you can hear today.
Are you ever scared of revealing aspects of your personal experience to strangers through your music?
I actually feel like that’s easier than telling someone outside of music.
What is the best show you ever played?
The best show I ever played was the show I did with my good friends Henry Fong and Milo and Otis two years ago in Orlando.
We all started DJing together in Orlando when we were still in college and we all ended up touring the world so it was a really special moment to bring everyone back together and play a show in our hometown.
What are your tour plans for 2018?
I’m always playing shows, almost every weekend, so hopefully I’ll be visiting your city soon!
Will you release a new album/ep soon?
My plan for this year is to release as many singles as I can. If that rolls into an EP or album then I won’t fight it, but it’s not something I’m focused on.
