1974 Ronnie Wood didn’t join yet the Rolling Stones but contributed in one of their most famous successes released as first single in the album “It is only Rock and Roll”, the last one with Mick Taylor at the guitar (with Keith Richards obviously).
A superband was in the house of Ronnie when this song (and music) has been written: David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards.
As soon the single has been released, it had a great success with the public but not with the critics.
Why?
Simple, the lyrics of the song were attacking them…. Rolling Stones stand firmly against all journalists (and other people) that were always criticizing what the band was doing and how they were doing it.
As you can see from the below image, Mick Jagger is wounded by a huge pen that goes directly in to his heart.
The video shows Rolling Stones wearing navy suits in a huge tent….Mick seems to talk directly with the critics, challenging and provoking…Keith plays a Fender Mustang (instead of the telecaster) , Mick Taylor with his long blonde hair, Bill Wyman with is “kid smile” and Charlie Watts that nearly drowned because of the bubbles ……..
