Following the success of her 2019 debut self-titled album, singer-songwriter Lotta Lindgren aka LÉON releases her sophomore studio album Apart, out everywhere now via LÉON Recordings, her partnership with BMG.
Apart is LÉON’s most honest and vulnerable effort to date. The songs begin with scene-setter “Head and Heart On Fire,” a track that’s based on the memory of meeting someone for the first time who it feels like you’ve known forever. “It’s kind of like looking at an old photograph,” LÉON notes. “You wish you could have stayed there, before things got hard.”
The songs that follow reflect on the loss of her relationship, putting personal experiences directly into the lyrics. “And It Breaks My Heart,” a propulsive anthem, was one of the first tracks to emerge, stemming from a dinner LÉON had with her ex after their breakup. It poignantly explains the split, while introspective number “Chasing a Feeling” considers how you know when it’s time to call it quits. “Falling Apart,” an emotionally wrought ballad, leans inward, with LÉON asking, “What do you do when you love someone but feel like you can’t go on?”
“That feeling overall is a big part of the album,” she notes. “You have this great thing and you don’t really have anything to complain about, but something is just off. Nobody did something hurtful, but the love is uncertain.”

The critically acclaimed Swedish artist, who released her debut self-titled album in 2019, has earned a cult-following since releasing her debut single in 2015. LÉON has consistently delivered with every release, demonstrating her knack for crafting emotive, tender, and unforgettable pop songs. She has amassed over 500 million total global streams, and is a regular critic’s favorite in the press, racking up praise from various media outlets. In addition to making her late-night television debut on The Late Late Show with James Corden, she has sold out many headline shows worldwide and performed at U.S. festival staples including Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza.
For as long as she can remember, LÉON has been performing and writing songs, using music as a way to channel her emotions. She grew up in Stockholm with musician parents, and spent her youth singing in choir, playing cello in the orchestra and joining bands. She was attracted to the idea of telling stories, inspired by artists like Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and the Beatles, and never saw another path for herself outside of music. The singer broke out in 2015 with single “Tired of Talking,” a track she released independently online. From there, LÉON built an expansive online following, releasing her first EP, Treasure, in the fall of 2015. She followed it with two more EPs and her dynamic debut full-length, LÉON, which dropped in the March of 2019. Over the past few years, she acquired over 500 million global streams and sold out headlining shows worldwide, with performances on major stages like Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
LÉON knows things will be very different with the release of Apart, mostly because she’s not able to tour on the album the way she did with her first. It means sharing the songs with her fans virtually and connecting to the emotions of the tracks through speakers and screens rather than in-person. But the relatability of these songs is undeniable, allowing them to transcend any limits that 2020 may have brought.
“I wanted to put out the album while I’m still feeling all the songs,” LÉON says. “I want to let them go, instead of holding on for too long. With BMG, I have the freedom to put out an album whenever I want and it’s great. People still feel a big urge to create despite what’s going on in the world and people still want to listen to new music. In a way, I was forced to slow down and make these songs. That feeling of not having pressure and having time to write has been so helpful to me as an artist.”
