Montreal-born, New Jersey-raised artistLove Mansuy (his birth given name; pronounced “mon-swee”) has returned with another new single titled “Calm Me Down,” which will be featured on Side A of his upcoming EP titled (món-swee), due out September 18th on Love & Company, with Side B releasing this winter. While his previous single “I’ll Be There” featured his three-year-old son Carter Mansuy, this latest single sees Love shifting his focus to his partner and the mother of his son, acknowledging the singular comfort that only a true companion can provide. “Calm Me Down” arrives alongside a music video directed by Love’s childhood friend Quran Squire, where Love tackles the challenges that come with being in a partnership.
Love’s most recent single “I’ll Be There” features Love’s son Carter and includes a visual where Love reflects on not only the need for black men to show up for their sons, but the need for black men to be there for black women.
While Love’s debut EP Of Age captured the artist coming of age into fatherhood, his upcoming EP (món-swee) introduces the dynamic nature of the 27-year-old songwriter, who has spent his entire life in excavation mode, digging up emotions and putting them under a sonic microscope in order to get closer to an understanding of what “love” really is. A subsequent effect of Normative Determinism, a theory in which “people tend to gravitate towards areas of work that fit their names,” Love’s upcoming EP, which will be released in two parts: Side A and Side B, dives even further into exploring this origin story, but this time focusing on his surname Mansuy, pronounced “món-swee,” and exploring the importance of truth and authenticity.
This new music from Love Mansuy is a dawn of a new creative journey, showcasing a more diverse palette of sound, as he reimagines masculinity by exploring vulnerability, desire, companionship, self-care and more on his upcoming EP (món-swee). This new music is just the latest development for the new artist. In April, he appeared on Ryan Hemsworth‘s new single “New Life.” And as recently as this month, Love performed onBlack Power Live and appeared on Rinse.FM to talk about his latest single.
