Today, new Communion Records signing and Brighton five-piece MarthaGunn release their debut single ‘Saint Cecilia’. Listen here: https://MarthaGunn.lnk.to/SaintCecilia. The song paves the way for the arrival of their forthcoming EP, set for release this year.
‘Saint Cecilia’, produced by Bear’s Den’s Kevin Jones, pairs soaring melodies with poignant lyricism and is a song happily disaffected by trend, time or place. The track is about ignoring your instincts and needing to ask for help, and is an archetypal example of MarthaGunn’s beautifully crafted song writing based around personal experience.
Made up of Abi, Max, Humphrey, Ally and Frankie – MarthaGunn first bonded five years ago where they all came to live together. Taking musical cues from bands including Fleetwood Mac, Mystery Jets and Haim, the group have since gone onto perform at The Great Escape and have also supported British-duo Bear’s Den. Over the last 18 months, the band have been honing the live show and are positioned for an exciting 2019. They will do a small headline run this spring, before playing Citadel Festival this July.
