Following the release of their first two albums, Dismantle and Rebuild (2014) and
Part Time Spies (2016), The Ramona Flowers have enjoyed international success, playing to crowds in LA, New York and Tokyo and finding fans in the likes of Bono, who then enlisted the producer behind the band’s Lust And Lies EP for U2’s Top 10 album Songs Of Experience.
Recently, The Ramona Flowers topped the Hype Machine chart with their track ‘Strangers’ and will continue to release new music throughout 2018.

Are you planning to release your album soon?

Very soon, May time.

How do you usually write the lyrics of your songs?

They are normally the last thing we add to a song. They can come from notes Steve has written in his notebook or put in his phone, or they can come from a feeling the music evokes. It can vary from song to song.

What is the best verse you ever wrote?

‘Tokyo’. It’s one of the first songs we wrote with a squelchy, dirty synth line, which at the time we just thought was really cool.

What are your favorite artists? And your all-time favorite song?

M83, Phoenix, Bombay Bicycle Club, Mr Jukes, Everything Everything, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the list goes on! ‘I Want’a Do Something Freaky To You’ by Leon Hayward is our pre-stage song.

What has your journey in the music industry been like up to now?

It’s been cool. We’ve done some awesome tours around the world, so we feel very lucky. The industry is changing so fast though, it’s hard to find the market.

What inspired your new song “Same Sun”?

‘Same Sun’ is about passing through a city or somewhere you don’t feel you belong and feeling like an outsider but realising ultimately it doesn’t matter because we are all part of something bigger and we are all living under the same sun.

And, “If You Remember” ?

If you remember is about two lifelong friends. One of them is going through a tough time and the other friend is trying to remind him of the good times when they were younger, saying “you can get through this and have those good times again.”

Are you ever scared of revealing, aspects of your  personal experience, to strangers through your music?

Sometimes it’s hard, cause songs can be very personal and can relate to people you love. This can make you feel a bit exposed.

Do you remember the day you wrote “Strangers”?

Totally. This was kind of cool cause we had ideas left open on the computer, and we were all adding parts, but at different times individually during the day. Modern music making!

What is the best show you ever played?

There’s been a few, but I’d say Fuji Rocks Festival in Japan last summer was up there.

What is the craziest thing a fan did for you?

A fan gave us a sex doll as a present with a picture of their face on it….

What are your plans for 2018?

We’re doing a UK tour in March, heading to Japan in April, followed by festivals. Hopefully we’ll be heading back to the US later on in the year.
