RYL: Shipwrecked is the title of your new EP, what it means for you?
The Blessings : The song “Shipwrecked” has a lot of meanings. It’s kind of about throwing everything away , going for broke .But also about having the clarity to recognize when we need help, and having the strength to ask for it.
RYL: Tell us everything about the song “Ran out of Teardrops
The Blessings: ”. I think everyone has had a relationship in their lives with someone that just takes and never gives. Someone that’s constantly pushing your boundaries.
Eventually you reach a breaking point and become numb to their bullshit. It’s about realizing that you don’t have anything left to give to the relationship.
RYL: Is there a common meaning/theme between all your songs?
The Blessings: Every song is different. The inspiration comes from many different places. Sometimes I don’t realize what the song is about until it’s completed.
Because I like to let my mind drift . That way in a sense the songs flow naturally and write themselves. They never seem forced. At least that’s my perception.
RYL: You are from LA…. Tell us something you like and you hate about the local rock scene…
The Blessings I like the local rock community here. There are so many great bands and we’re all supportive of each other. There are tons of great places to play and the promoters treat us well at those particular clubs.
There are still the clubs and bars out here that treat the entertainment like common peasants but they are a dying breed. There definitely has been a positive change in the last few years.
RYL: how do you, usually, write the lyrics and music of your songs?
The Blessings(Jeremy White): It’s never the same formula. Creativity always presents itself in different forms.
It’s just a matter of recognizing it when it comes and committing it to pen and paper and/or recording it before you forget it.
RYL: What is behind the verses of “Born With Horns”?
The Blessings: It’s about having a dark side . Everyone has one. Some suppress it. Some explore it. This song is about exploring it. Reveling in it actually.
RYL: Which is the most important thing for you while doing music?
The Blessings: Music is expression . So it’s always important to convey an emotion .
RYL: and the best verse you ever wrote?
The Blessings: One of my favorite verses of the new E.P. is from “Come Back Home”. It’s a very specific and personal song . So personal that I debated with myself whether to include it on the E.P.
The second verse :
“I know my best days are behind me
For so long I drank my time away
When you’re gone those demons know where to find me
When you’re home they got no place to stay”
RYL: Which is the last song you wrote (not published yet)?
The Blessings: We have so many new ones. I can’t remember which we wrote last.
RYL: your tour project ?
The Blessings: It’s still in the planning phase. Summer is over so it’ll be in the fall.
RYL: Do you remember the day you wrote “Mississippi Moon”?
The Blessings: I remember coming up with music. I don’t remember how or when the lyrics came to me. My memory is a bit cloudy.
