Are you happy of the success that your new EP “Starting to Spin” is obtaining?
Yes – really happy! We released it with no guarantees to how it would be received, and generally it’s been an overwhelmingly positive response.
How do you usually write the lyrics of your songs?
I like to wait until the vibe of the instrumental has been established and then hope it takes me to an interesting head space, and work from there.
Doing it in this order also creates an urgency that I feel makes me more creative with lyrics.
That being said, if I feel like I have a strong lyrical idea, I can use this to influence the vibe of the music too, so it really can go either way.
Do you remember writing “Reckless Tongue”?
Yes. I remember wanting to portray a protagonist who reluctantly took part in the clubbing rituals of young people because they felt this was their only way of meeting people of romantic interest.
What is the best verse you ever wrote?
I like to think the best is yet to come!
And the one of your favorite song (not written by you)?
Cry Cry Cry – Johnny Cash – The lyrics to this song are really cool
What is the last song you wrote?
Top Secret
What is the best thing of performing for your audience?
Working out what songs they connect the most with and seeing them enjoy the music as much as we enjoyed creating it
