New York City-based singer songwriter duo The Lay Awakes shares their debut LP Home Away From Home, available now on all DSPs.

Internationally acclaimed wheelchair athlete Patrick Anderson teams up with his wife, songwriter Anna Paddock, to release their debut full-length album Home Away From Home. It’s a collection of songs that draws on the joys and sorrows of the couple’s life as it is now, through stories of love, friendship, and family life.

Home Away From Home is produced by the The Lay Awakes’ longtime friend, Jeremy McDonald. McDonald is a Pittsburgh native whose production credits include Beyoncé and Kevin Garrett. The mixing engineer is Grammy Award-winning Will Hensley, who has worked with artists including Coldplay, Regina Spektor, Leonard Cohen, and John Mayer. Together, McDonald and Hensley have produced an LP that is mature but still falls fresh on seasoned ears.

It is also a credit to the duo as songwriters and musicians that Home Away From Home is so diverse in tone, tempo, and production sensibilities, ranging from lush to evocatively sparse. What ties everything together is the beautiful and honest singing, along with uninhibited lyrical authenticity. These ten tracks show the spirit and promise of a growing musical partnership and a vision to play the long game and see where the music takes them. Home Away From Home is available on all digital streaming platforms since May 4, 2018.

BIO

THE LAY AWAKES is a singer-songwriter duo based in Brooklyn, New York, with roots in the prairies of Canada and small-town Ontario, where their story began.

Anna Paddock and Patrick Anderson met at a wedding in rural Saskatchewan and were quickly drawn to one another over a shared love of music and sports. After talking all night and realizing they were driving home in the same direction, they embarked on a caravan-style road trip across western Canada.  Things were never quite the same. They married in 2011, and, choosing love before play, waited a few years before forming The Lay Awakes. They released their debut EP in 2015 and have been making music (and babies) ever since.

Anna (piano, vocals) grew up in various states and provinces, but her family ties connect her to rural Manitoba.  Her dad played and coached hockey, moving the family around and inspiring her own collegiate volleyball career.  Trained as a classical pianist and inspired by dance and musical theater, Anna continued her studies at New York University, where she earned her master’s degree in composition and began writing songs.

Patrick (guitar, vocals) hails from Fergus, Ontario, and points to the family songbook and campfire as his early musical influences. Patrick is perhaps better known for his alter-ego as the world’s best wheelchair basketball player. He has won multiple Paralympic gold medals and continues to represent Canada internationally.

Patrick and Anna share their small Brooklyn apartment with two kids, multiple instruments, and many wheelchairs. They are excited to share their debut full-length LP in May 2018.
