In less than two weeks you will play Bay Fest, are you happy to come back to Italy?

Of course! Always a great time in Italy – we have so many greta fans and so many memories of amazing shows here!

What is the best memory you have of one of your past Italian shows?

We have had great shows all over Italy, but we have had some incredible times in Milan and Rimini.

You guys are touring quite intensively this summer, are you finding the time to write new songs?

Hello – we just released a new album this month!!

What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done on tour?

Our band is pretty tame, I would have to say probably some crazy, logistical stuff – you know, getting from Point A to Point B type of stuff. Barely making flights, or missing them, etc.

What inspired the song “Precariat” off your new album “Thoughts and Prayers”? And “No Safe Place”?

Precariat” is about the fragile state of human existence, complicated by the cultural pressures of living in 2019. “No Safe Place” is about the malevolence of male privilege in our culture.

Do you remember the day you wrote “Our Great Divide”?

Not really. It’s likely that particular song was written over the course of more than one day.

Coming back to Bay Fest, let’s say that the lineup is pretty impressive… Offspring, NOFX, Sick Of It All, Dead Kennedys, Frank Turner, Less than Jake, The Story So Far and many more…. Do you have a favourite band among those?

Of the bands you listed, Sick Of It All is my favourite. I also love Frank Turner’s stuff. Looking forward to the festival! We played it two years ago, beautiful spot!

What do you think is the most meaningful song, lyrically speaking, you wrote?

I think “There’s No ‘I’ In Team” is probably my favourite.

Last question about touring: what is your best memory of the Vans Warped Tour?

In 2000, we had the opportunity to play the main stage for the entire tour and I just remember there were so many cool bands and people on that tour. Getting to spend the days hanging out with friends, going from stage to stage to watch these incredible bands, it was a great summer.

To conclude the interview a short Q/A session, please answer the first thing that comes to your mind:

  • Define in one word your new album “Thoughts and Prayers”: Timely.
  • The best show you ever played: Maybe Toronto, Ontario at the Opera House.
  • The one thing that you must have backstage: Towels.
  • Your favourite punk band of all time: Adolescents.
  • Last question is very useful in Italy, especially in the Rimini area: Gelato or Piadina? Whatever is vegan.
