RYL: tell us everything about your new projects… in 2015 you will release a new album? New songs?

Colony House: We are currently writing like crazy while also touring as much as possible. We can’t promise that there will be a new album in 2015 but perhaps some songs? You’ll just have to stay tuned.

RYL: What inspired “Second Guessing Games”?

Colony House: There is always a lot that goes into a song. Musically I think I wanted to try and write something a little more up-tempo than usual.

Lyrically, I wanted to remind myself that overthinking things can be more dangerous sometimes than making the “Wrong” decision.

The only way we move forward in this life is to do just that, move forward. So often I find myself stuck because I am not sure which way to go.

Second Guessing Games is a follow your heart song.

RYL: Is there a common inspiration between all your songs?

Colony House: In some way for sure. They are all personal and all are inspired by the lives we have the honor and privilege of  observing.

RYL:  Do you remember how the lyrics of “Waiting for my time to come” have been written?

Colony House: Oh yes indeed. We were in a hard place as a band. We had finished our album but were not sure what was going to happen with it. We had multiple “big” opportunities fall through on us last minute.

The most notable being Austin City Limits 2013 when we were supposed to play and our day got rained out.

I think we were all just wondering what the deal was and why nothing seemed to be going our way. I began writing the song to remind myself that everything happens for a reason. Now looking back it is amazing to see how far we have come.

Still… the song is always a good reminder for us to appreciate life now knowing that the future will worry about itself.

RYL: how do you, usually, write your songs?

Colony House: It starts with an acoustic guitar, than the lyrics come as the music finds its place. After I have the bare bones I take it to the other guys and we start making it louder.

RYL: what is the meaning behind the verses of “Silhouettes”?

Colony House: It’s saying don’t let the darkness of the past overshadow the brightness of today. I could write a whole paper on this song. It is specifically speaking about losing loved ones and honoring their memories by living your life to the fullest.

RYL:  Do you remember the day you started as a band?

Colony House: Yes and no… Me and my brother have always been playing music together. I do remember the first time Scott played with us.

We wanted a guitar player and he had learned some of the songs we had at the time. He came over, we played through the songs, he did well, and then we pretty much said, “you’re in”!

And it’s been that way ever since.

RYL: Which is the last song you wrote (not yet published) ?

Colony House: Not sure exactly what I’ll call it yet… I think maybe “Beautiful Life”

RYL: tell us about your upcoming tour projects….

We are about to head on the road with Needtobreathe, Switchfoot, Ben Rector, and Drew Holcomb which we are really excited about. We are playing a couple cool festivals like Firefly and Hangout… and then beyond that who knows? We hope to continue touring all fall as well.
