How do you usually write the lyrics of your songs?
It’s pretty different for every song. Often chorusy parts will come to me in the car or walking around, then I try to come up with a story that means something to me in the verses.
In your opinion, what is the most important thing in songwriting?
Exposing a feeling or experience from your soul and making it into a story.
Are you ever scared of revealing aspects of your personal life/experience to strangers through your music?
Not really, I think that’s the point.
What is the best lyric that you ever wrote (the most meaningful for you)?
I’ve always liked this chorus:
All the dark ones gone away only nice ones here today
Just keep in mind my state of mind but I could watch you everyday
I trade my black shirt in for brown I lay the feathers on the ground
So you can follow them to me if you get lost along the way
Why have you chosen to cover “Gold Day”, part of your upcoming album ‘Whatever You Need’ out on 1st of November?
Sparklehorse has been a huge influence on me. He has a way of making melancholy music that makes me feel sad and happy at the same time. We actually covered two of his songs on our first album.

And “Better With The Time”?
That’s one of Dustin Bentall’s songs. He co-fronts Hunting with me. Isn’t that song beautiful?
Do you remember the day you wrote “Black Shirt”?
Maybe not the exact day… That’s an old song I had that I wanted to re invent. I was a miserable fuck and felt that wasn’t really working for me. So I decided to force myself to think more positive thoughts, even a little bit, like don’t think black thoughts anymore, try to think brown thoughts at least.
Is there a link/a common theme among the songs of the new album?
Happiness.
What is the best suggestion your producer gave you?
I produce my albums.
What are your plans for the upcoming months?
Let the album simmer for a bit, then hopefully go on tour for a year.
